Snow Day!
I woke up this morning to two very excited three year old's yelling "snow day! snow day! snow day!"
Today has been an absolute gift. For many many reasons. First, it has been a sweet day together; playing, sledding, drinking hot chocolate (and the day is not over! Round 2 of playing in the snow is coming up after nap time!) And second, because this was an interruption. This interrupted the plans I had for today, but even bigger, this pretty much ensures we will not be in our new home for Christmas. It was already going to be a tight deadline, so this delay certainly will not help.
But here is something I am learning to joyful embrace... interruptions.
We recently did some 2018 planning. I printed out calendars for January-April and we began penciling in plans... Celebrating our anniversary, the kids birthday, hosting a couple of events, inviting some friends to visit. We even wrote large "X" on some dates to give our family margin and intentional time for just the four of us to be together. We thought everything through and were very intentional. We made sure the things we were saying yes to lined up with our family's purpose and the things God has called us to do. Remember when you say yes to something it means you are saying no to something else. Be intentional with your calendar.
That being said, as soon as we finished, I had a conversation with God about it. It went something like this... "I know plans will not unfold exactly as is written on this paper. Kids will get sick. Friends will need to reschedule. Snow will fall. Remind me that life becomes an adventure in the unexpected. Help us always create room for You to show up. Always feel free to interrupt. Your plans and adventures are the best. I want Your plans."
I do not want to move into our new home one day earlier than God has planned. Because I trust His timing. I trust that His ways are always better than my own. And while we wait, I will enjoy TODAY. I will give him thanks for this incredible home we have lived in for the past nineteen months. I will give thanks for the future. And I will soak up this beautiful white day with this precious family He has given me. And I will gladly drink an excessive amount of hot chocolate and coffee.
So as you begin dreaming and planning out the new year, I encourage you to be intentional, create margin, and embrace the interruptions.
We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it. Proverbs 16:9

Beautifully said! Meanwhile, I'm down in Charleston with the cold and the rain and God gifted me a whole day inside a quiet, toasty home without having to drive anywhere for appointments. I'm catching up on a few things before the weekend hits, then a friend and I are heading to the Georgia mountains for five days to pray, dream and plan for next year. And you can bet I'll be marking off my own blocks of margin. Love it! Our hearts are on the same page once again. Love you dear one. Thanks for sharing a slice of your life with us today. <3
